However, the Education Committee reserves the right to annually adjust category percentages. To increase the field of viable candidates to more than very top academic performers, place financial need as the primary consideration while maintaining academic performance as a major factor, and honor actual work experience, the 2008 recipient was chosen accordingly:

Essay 10%
Work Experience 10%

The 2008 selection criteria will be utilized for choosing the 2009 scholarship recipient.

In late February or early March, Clover High School personnel publicize the scholarship and distribute River Hills Lion’s Club designed application forms (revised as needed) to students who must complete them by a given deadline. Completed applications are then submitted to the River Hills Lion’s Club Education Committee, which determines which student is to be awarded the scholarship for that year. The current Lion’s Club Education Chair notifies Clover High School which student is to be awarded the scholarship at least two weeks before the scheduled Award Ceremony when the student’s name is announced publicly by the Lion’s Club Education Chair. The Education Chair also informs the selected student in writing before the Award Ceremony.

Soon after being awarded the scholarship, the student and his or her parents are invited to a Lion’s Club meeting to be introduced to the Lion’s Club membership by the current Education Chair.

The student is expected to show proof of registration/matriculation at his or her institution of choice before initial funds can be dispersed to that institution in the student’s favor. Furthermore, it remains the student’s annual responsibility to show proof of academic good standing at his or her initial institution of choice before funds for that academic year can be released.
