February 9, 2009 - Lions, LCIF Respond to Australia Fires – LCIF is working with local Lions to respond to the devastating bush wildfires that spread across southern Australia and has awarded $30,000 total in emergency grants and a $100,000 major catastrophe grant. LCIF has established an “Australian Wildfire Disaster” designed fund for donors wishing to contribute directly to the disaster……

February 9, 2009 - Lions partner to Launch “Noor Dubai” – Lions Clubs International has partnered with government leaders in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to launch Noor Dubai, or Sight Dubai. Noor Dubai has pledged $2.4M to partnership, treat and provide health services to 1million people suffering from preventable blindness and visual impairment in developing countries on a local, regional and international scale…….

March 27, 2009 – The International Association of Lions Clubs (LCI))( a network of 1.3 million members in more than 45,000 clubs in 205 countries) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IRFRC) have joined forces in order to strengthen the essential role volunteers play in preparing for disasters in responding to emergencies at the community level. Lions members work together to answer needs at the community level, funding projects that range from cleaning up parks to providing people affected by disasters with emergency supplies.

April 6, 2009 - More than 100,000 people (almost every man, woman and child in Charleston) are homeless and 200 dead following the devastating earthquake centered in the medieval city of L’Anquila, Italy the morning of April 6. 2009. The 6.3 magnitude quake occurred 60 miles northeast of Rome. In all, 26 towns and villages were damaged. Lions throughout Italy are assisting in emergency response efforts. Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has already issued a $10,000 Emergency Grant so that Lions in the affected areas can quickly help people get food, water and medicine. LCIF will continue to work with Lions to assess immediate and long-term needs.
